26 Oct Swipe Right For a Job
When the weather turns cold I always start thinking about sprucing up my resume. It starts the same way, with lots of lists and lots of tasks. Then, when I can’t put it off any longer, I start to write and end up with a very analytical look at my day to day. It bores me to press save, so how could it inspire anyone to pick me?
I decided to make my resume look like a dating profile. I realized that is what this simple piece of paper is at the end of the day. What you are trying to accomplish is the same thing you would do to catch a mate. It is a representation of you to someone who you want to have a long-term relationship with.
On a resume, skills are most important than tasks but it is very hard to remember that when you are trying to sell yourself. Think about playing up those skills as reasons to start a relationship. What can you bring to your new relationship? Being able to file won’t grab anyone’s mind or heart. But being able to offer sustainable support, guidance and loyalty is something both a partner and a boss would be looking for.
And while you are at it, think about those job interviews as blind dates. Have fun, and show off why you make a great partner!
